PROGRAM GENERAL INFO

NEWS & UPDATES

  • The scientific program will include plenary and invited presentations, as well as oral and poster presentations
  • Special awards and winners are reserved for the best papers and posters of the conference. Each award consists of certificate and cash prizes
  • The program will introduce a new EFCE Award in Process Systems Engineering in collaboration with the AIChE
  • The program will include a Special Session to honor the legacy of late Prof Christodoulos Floudas

Oral presentations

Oral presentations will be given in multiple sessions. In order to maximize the number of presentations that each participant could visit, we plan max. 5 sessions taking place in parallel. Each speaker will have a total of 20 min to present his/her work. There will be about 100-120 oral presentations in total. The presentation (PowerPoint format) should be provided to the local organizers at least 30 minutes before the session starts.

Poster presentations

An important percentage of the contributions will be posters (size A0, portrait format), to be presented within the poster sessions

Posters of Themes 1-2 will be presented on Monday, June 19, 2023 and Posters of Themes 3-8 will be presented on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. Poster Sessions Time 13:30-14:30 🕜

The posters should be put on the stands in the morning and removed by the end of the day. We aim to organize an evaluation of the best posters and the announcement of the awards will be given at the closing ceremony. The selection will be made by the International Scientific Committee.

Click here for On-site Poster Printing service. You can collect your poster at the registration desk.

Special sessions and workshops

The program will include special sessions and additional workshops in thematic areas of systems engineering applications for Industrial Biotechnology, data models and AI applications (embedded models, deep learning, multi-scale integration).

Plenary lectures

The plenary lectures would be the first lectures of the day. During each day of the symposium, 1-2 plenary lectures would be given, with a total of 5 plenary lectures planned, covering the main symposium themes. Authors giving plenary lectures would have a total of 45 min for each presentation and discussion. The plenary speakers will be from academia as well as industrial organizations, knowledge, and research institutions.

IRISS Thematic Session

Tuesday, June 20, 2023
1:30 PM - 2:30 PM
CONF. ROOM II

The IRISS session in ESCAPE-33 aims to bring together IRISS, EFCE and ESCAPE communities, as well as, national and regional stakeholders, to discuss the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) framework and initiatives, their role and prospects in delivering sustainable processes and products. Under this perspective, the up-to-date results and achievements of the IRISS project, as well as the upcoming activities and events will be presented.

Who is it for

Lack of data has been publicly identified as a constraining bottleneck for an SSbD approach in research and innovation in the Chemical and Material Industry. In silico models are one of the most important tools to generate such data. This session addresses both worlds. For Systems practitioners: Full deployment of SSbD stands to benefit critically from systems-level design and re-design thinking, as exposed in ESCAPE-33. SSbD emerges as a priority application for systems tools. For SSbD practitioners: ESCAPE-33 hosts four themes with relevance to SSbD (Themes 1, 2, 3 & 7). These will open a window to a portfolio of tools and approaches for the SSbD community of IRISS.

Attendance is free, but registration is required for the session

Use the free registration form https://era.eventsair.com/escape-33/reg to reserve your place, as the session 's capacity will be 50 participants.

A Workshop on Course Development – Final Announcement

Workshop promoters: Daniel Lewin, Technion, and Edwin Zondervan, Twente

Workshop outcomes: Participants working in teams will complete a master plan for a complete course on one of three themes motivated by an invited talk from the conference. Each team will be mentored by the corresponding plenary/invited speaker:

  • Topic 1: AI in Chemical Engineering, led by Venkat Venkatasubramanian, Columbia
  • Topic 2: Optimization Methods for Energy Systems, led by Christos Marvelias, Princeton
  • Topic 3: Sustainable Circular Economy, led by Bhavik Bakshi, Ohio State

The master plans will include:

  • Step 1. learning objectives, syllabus, and schedule for the entire course.
  • Step 2. Learning objectives and syllabus for at least one week of activity in the course.
  • Step 3. Generation of suitable student activities for each week of activity outlined in Step 2.

Course participants are invited to review a short video describing how the flipped class is used to teach PSE subjects (recommended before attending ESCAPE-33):
